Against this backdrop, an image showing a woman holding a placard that reads, ‘#GoBackModi in front of the Adiyogi statue in Tamil Nadu is going viral. This image is being circulated as a protest against Modi in Tamil Nadu.
Fact Check
A reverse image search on Google led us to a similar image in a tweet made by Vanathi Srinivasan, national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha and a member of Tamil Nadu’s Legislative Assembly along with several other images. As per the tweet the image was taken during a program held by Vanathi Srinivasan in Coimbatore to thank Prime Minister Modi for giving 100 crore corona vaccine. Vanathi Srinivasan posted this picture on her Twitter page on 24 October, 2021. The placard she held expressed gratitude, stating, “India creates history: 100 crore vaccinations. Thank you, Modi Ji.” Other images captured people alongside her, also holding posters with the same message.

In 2021, India achieved the 100- crore milestone in its covid vaccination drive. The government celebrated the milestone with grand events. Upon further search, we came across a video uploaded on YouTube with a title “100 Crore vaccination milestone celebrated by the state president flying a balloon in front of Adiyogi statue”
Thus, it is clear that an old image of BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan holding a placard has been digitally edited to read, “Go Back Modi”.
