However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral newspaper clipping was fake. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

In the viral newspaper clipping the published date was 2 June 2016. Therefore, we searched for Amar Ujala’s 2 June 2016 edition. As a result, we found the archived version of Amar Ujala’s edition on the said date. But we couldn’t find any news as the viral newspaper clipping.

Moving forward, by conducting a relevant keyword search we found a clarification by Amar Ujala published on 2 June 2016. They said, “A fake news is being spread on social media in the name of Amar Ujala mentioning Prahlad Modi. Amar Ujala has nothing to do with this news. Amar Ujala strongly condemns the circulation of such fake news. This fake news has been viral on social media in the name of Amar Ujala. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the culprits by Amar Ujala”.

Fact Crescendo also reached out to Prahlad Modi to get more information regarding this. Prahlad Modi said, “When the news in Amar Ujala came to my notice, I contacted their editor and asked him what was going on. Because I never met anyone nor have I made any such statement. I said I’ll file a complaint against them. Then the editor assured me that he’d file a complaint because this was fake. He also sent an FIR copy to me but right now I don’t have it. But this news is completely baseless. I never made such a statement.”

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the viral newspaper clipping is fake. Amar Ujala never published an article with such a headline and Prahlad Modi didn’t make any such statement.
