Recently a video clip of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat went viral on social media. In the viral video, Mohan Bhagwat can be heard saying “Sangh waale bahar se toh baatein acche karenge andar jaake kehte hai aarakshan ka humara virodh hai, bahar hum bol nahi sakte” (Sangh people oppose reservation from within, but cannot say it openly).
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral clip was incomplete. In the original video, Mohan Bhagwat said that RSS has been supporting all reservations as per the constitution since the beginning. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search of the found images. As a result, we came across a tweet from ANI where the longer version of the viral video was uploaded. In the video, Mohan Bhagwat can be heard saying, “A video is being circulated that RSS is against reservation and we cannot speak about this outside. Now this is completely false. The Sangh has been supporting all reservations as per the Constitution since the beginning”
A comparison between the viral video and the original video can be seen below. From this, it is clear that the viral clip is incomplete. In the original video, Bhagwat was referring to a false video circulating on social media claiming that RSS opposes reservation.
On further research, we have found some news reports on it. The Times Of India published a report on 28 April 2024 with the headline-” ‘Sangh has always stood for reservation’, says RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat amid quota row”.
Another report from The Economic Times can be read here.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can conclude that the viral clip of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is incomplete. Bhagwat did not say that RSS opposes reservation. In the original video, he was referring to a false video circulating on social media claiming that RSS opposes reservation.
