Edited video of Kamal Nath goes viral with misleading claims

The viral video is edited and audio has been added to it separately. In the original video he was talking about surviving the tactics of RSS. 

The Phase 4 voting for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 is scheduled to take place on 13 May. Amidst the election atmosphere in the country, various types of claims are being spread on social media platforms. Meanwhile, a video of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamal Nath addressing the Muslim crowd is going viral very fast. In this video, we can hear Kamal Nath talking to the crowd standing in front on issues like Article 370 and the mosque land. 

Kamal Nath can be heard telling the crowd of people from the Muslim community, ‘I was thinking for a long time that I should talk to you people. Before this, understand that this thing should not go out from here. We are most concerned and worried about you. Therefore, Congress wants that you Muslim brothers should support us, so that in future we can take decisions in your favour. I assure you that we will get you the place of your mosque and article 370 shall also be taken care of. Look, I can’t say everything openly…just understand this much…’

The caption of this video reads, “Don’t let this video fall into the hands of BJP, Congressmen will tear you to pieces”.

We started the investigation by searching the viral video through different keywords, as a result of which we found a video uploaded on the YouTube channel of Lokmat Hindi News on 14 November 2018. It is written in the headline of this video that “Kamalnath’s video goes viral. Said, ‘If you are a Hindu then vote for Modi and if you are a Muslim then vote for Congress.’ After listening carefully to this video, we came to know that Kamal Nath was not talking about Article 370 and the mosque land. Actually, in the original video he was talking about surviving the tactics of RSS.

The original video was reported by several other media organizations in 2018, and you can watch it below. In the original video, Kamal Nath had called the RSS communal and had asked the Muslim community to vote in favour of Congress.
