Boycotting Israeli products? No. Coca-Cola is not a product of Israel.

Recent war between Israel and Palestine started in October last year after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. This incident divided the world in two groups- those who supported Israel and those who sympathized over the death of people and destruction in Palestine.

This war prompted many social media users to boycott Israeli products which started the trend #BoycottIsraelproducts. One such video resurfaced again on social media asking the consumers to boycott Coca-Cola as it is an Israeli product.

In the video, a man is trying to sell a bottle of Coca-Cola to a customer. The customer refused even after he was offered a free sugar packet with the bottle. The customer can be heard saying, “Even though I can’t go to war against Israel with my Muslim brothers, still i can support them by boycotting Israeli products like Coca-Cola

So, is Coca-Cola an Israeli product? Let’s check the facts.

Fact Check-

In our research, we first looked for Coca-Cola’s history. We found the information available on its website. According to the information, Coca-Cola originated at Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia in 1886 by Dr.John Pemberton. It started with 9 drinks per day and now reached 1.9 billion servings each day in more than 200 countries.

According to Britannica, Cca-Cola was incorporated in America in 1892. Coca-Cola was created in 1886 by John S. Pemberton, a pharmacist in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially marketed as a tonic, it contained cocaine from coca leaves and caffeine from kola nuts. The name “Coca-Cola” was chosen by Pemberton’s bookkeeper, Frank Robinson. The formula was later altered to remove cocaine around 1903.

Apart from Coca-Cola, we found a boycott trend for many products which are not Israeli origin. Fact Crescendo previously debunked such a claim previously which you can read here.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found that Coca-Cola is not an Israeli product. This drink originated from America in the 1880s. The video was made viral to mislead people and defame the Coca-Cola company.
