Is this a recent incident of stone pelting on Hindus from West Bengal? Know the truth.

A video of many bikes carrying saffron flags lying on the street is going viral on social media. A few people can also be heard shouting slang. Users are claiming that this is a recent incident from West Bengal where Hindus are being targeted. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old incident from Odisha when stones were pelted on a bike rally organized on the occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav by Hindus. 

What’s the claim? 

Sharing the video, a social media user wrote, “Khoob Khela Hobe. See how bhagva bike rally was attacked under Mamta Bano’s rune”

Fact Check: 

After watching the video closely, we found a bike with Odisha’s registration number starting with OD 03 among the bikes fallen on the street. This raised a suspicion if the incident is actually from West Bengal. 

After this, we ran a relevant keyword search which led us to the same video tweeted in 2023. As per the information provided in the tweet, this incident took place in Sambalpur district of Odisha on 13 April 2023. This day violence erupted after stone was pelted on Hindus during Hanuman Janmotsav bike rally.

According to Kalinga TV report, stones were pelted during the Hanuman Jayanti bike rally in Sambalpur, Odisha. This initiated the violence from both the groups. 10 police personnel including senior officers were injured during the incident. Many shops and vehicles were vandalized. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old incident from Odisha when stones were pelted on Hanuman Jayanti Bike rally. This video has no connection with West Bengal.
