However, when we investigated about the video, we came to know that this video has been altered. Amit Shah was talking about scrapping the “Unconstitutional Reservation for Muslims”, not about SC, ST and OBC Reservations. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by conducting a keyword search on YouTube which led us to a video on the channel of Times Now that was uploaded on 24th April, 2023. The caption of the video read, “Amit Shah Promises To Scrap ‘Unconstitutional’ Muslim Quota In Telangana, Owaisi Retorts Saying…”.

From 1:24 timestamp to 1:55 of the video, a statement similar to the viral speech can be heard. In this clip, Amit Shah can be heard saying, “If the BJP government is formed, we will scrap the unconstitutional Muslim reservation. The SC, ST and OBC communities of Telangana deserve this opportunity and they will be awarded the same by ending the Muslim reservation”.

According to the description of the video, “Addressing a rally in Telangana, Union Home Minister vowed to scrap Muslim reservation in the state if the party is voted to power. Dubbing the reservation for Muslims “unconstitutional”, Amit Shah said the provision belongs to SC/ST and OBCs only. His comments invited a sharp response from the ruling BRS and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.”

Moving forward, we have come across another video on the channel V6 News that was uploaded on 23rd April, 2023. The caption of the video read, “Union Minister Amit Shah Comments Muslim Reservation | V6 Weekend Teenmaar”. From 2:38 to 3:02 timestamp of the video, the visual similar to the viral clip can be seen. There also Amit Shah can be heard saying, “If the BJP government is formed, we will scrap the unconstitutional Muslim reservation. The SC, ST and OBC communities of Telangana deserve this opportunity and they will be awarded the same by ending the Muslim reservation”

A comparison between Amit Shah’s viral speech and original speech can be seen below. The comparison makes it very clear that the viral video is edited.

Conclusion

From our investigation we can say that the viral clip is edited. Amit Shah did not say that SC, ST and OBC reservations will be abolished if BJP forms the government. Instead, he said Muslim Reservations will be abolished if BJP forms the government.
