Are these women from Manipur vandalising EVMs after suspecting it to be tampered? Know the truth.

A video of a few women vandalising EVMs in the presence of police is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that when voters cast their votes for other parties, a slip of BJP came out of the machine. Seeing this, women started vandalising the EVMs at the polling booth. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This incident took place at a polling booth in Manipur after multiple proxy voting was suspected.

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to the same video tweeted by NDTV on 19 April 2024. According to the information, EVMs in Manipur were vandalised over proxy voting allegations

According to The Indian Express, as the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded on April 19, there were reports of intimidation of agents and voters, gun-running and vandalism of polling stations from various parts of Manipur. Many places armed people were seen trying to capture the polling booths. Even locals complained that they were forced to vote for BJP. 

According to the NDTV report, there were instances of gunfire in which four people were injured. Many people were threatened not to come out of their house to vote.

ANI has tweeted an Election Commission notice which carries the information of re-polling of 11 polling booths in Manipur. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The incident of the viral video has no connection with EVM tampering. This incident took place at a polling booth in Manipur after multiple proxy voting was suspected.
