Currently, an image of a gathering of Muslim women in Burqa is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that these Muslim women came to cast vote for 2024 general elections in West Bengal and total Muslim votes in the state was 78%.
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old image and not related to West Bengal or the 2024 general elections.
What’s the claim?
Sharing the image, a social media user wrote, “You may be thinking that this is a scenario of voting from Pakistan. But no. This is a queue of Muslim women who came to cast their votes in West Bengal. West Bengal had given accommodation to a lot of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Jihadis and now these people are helping TMC to win in elections.”
Fact Check-
A Google Reverse Image Search on Google led us to the same image uploaded on an Instagram account in 2021. In the caption, the user wrote about various dresses for women of Muslim communities. Below you can see the post.
Further research led us to the same image posted on Facebook in 2018. The user claimed this image to be from Libya. You can see the post here and here.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The viral image is old and available on social media from 2018. This image has no connection with 2024 general elections.
