Chennai Super Kings shared this image to celebrate reaching 6 million followers on Twitter in 2020. It is not recent and has no link to 2024 general election

Many Videos and images are going viral in social media regarding the 2024 general election. Currently, an image of former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni making a sign of six with his fingers is going viral on social media. The picture was being used to insinuate that MS Dhoni was endorsing the Congress party by indicating the Congress symbol hand and voting with his fingers. 

The caption states, “MSD knows the importance of congress more than anyone else coz we won 3 ICC trophies under his captaincy during congress regime. A panauti striked the country in every area including ICC events after 26th may 2014 and we desperately need to get rid of it. #NoVoteToBJP”

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by conducting a keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a report published by NDTV on 5 October 2020 carrying the same viral image. The caption states, IPL 2020: MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings Celebrate Six Million Twitter Followers. The report mentions that, “Chennai Super Kings crossed 6 million followers on Twitter and the team celebrated this milestone. ” The report adds, CSK reached 6 million Twitter followers, so Dhoni made the number six sign with his fingers to mark the achievement.

Upon further search, we found Chennai Super Kings also shared the same image on their official Instagram account  and on their Facebook page as well with the same information.

Chennai Super Kings reached 6 million Twitter followers, so Dhoni made the number six sign with his fingers to mark the achievement. The sign had no connection with Congress and was entirely related to CSK’s social media milestone.

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. Chennai Super Kings shared this image to celebrate reaching 6 million followers on Twitter in 2020. It is not recent and has no link to 2024 general election.
