Old video goes viral as visuals of police catching fake voters during the first phase of general elections in Uttar Pradesh

This is an old video taken during polling for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. It dates back to February 2022.

Voting is going on eight seats of Uttar Pradesh in the first phase of 2024 general elections. Amidst this, a video of police catching two burkha-clad women for allegedly attempting to cast fake votes is being shared on social media, with the claim that it depicts Uttar Pradesh police dealing with fraudulent voters.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by conducting a keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a Facebook post containing the same video uploaded on 15 February 2022 with a caption, “Police in Rampur caught Burqa clad women in attempt of bogus voting, beaten &. Arrested on the spot. #UPElections2022”. 

We found the same video was shared on Twitter as well, with the same details.

Upon further investigation, we came across several news reports from February 2022 which reported about an event that took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur during the Assembly elections. The report mentions that two burqa-clad women were caught while attempting to cast fake votes during the second phase of polling for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

As per reports, Muskaan and Rani, two ladies, were found casting fake votes. One of them even pulled off a bogus vote. This incident occurred in Rampur’s GRP College Polling centre. The police even filed a case against them.

Taking account of all these evidences, we can understand that an old video from Uttar Pradesh is falsely shared as visuals fake voters from today’s election in Uttar Pradesh.

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This is an old video taken during polling for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. It dates back to February 2022. It has no link to 2024 general election in UP.
