Old images from Argentina viral as massive rally in support of Arvind Kejriwal.

Both images are from Argentina after winning Fifa World cup in December 2022.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi was arrested by the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam on 21 March and subsequently remanded to judicial custody till April 15. Various political parties are organizing protest meetings to condemn the incident. Against this backdrop, a collage of two images are going viral on social media, purporting to be of the crowd gathered against the arrest of Kejriwal.

The caption of the post states, “Around 5 crores people in Nainital today participated in a rally to support of Arvind Kejriwal. This is just from one district. Similar rallies were reported from all over India today. Scary visuals for BJP supporters!”

Fact Check-

We started our investigations by running a reverse image search on Google whose results led us to a report by The National Public radio published on 21 December 2022 carrying the first image. The title states, “Overflow crowds in Buenos Aires forced the end of a World Cup celebration parade”. As per the caption of the image “The Argentine soccer team that won the World Cup title ride on an open bus during their homecoming parade in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022”.

This confirms that the image is from Argentina and was not taken recently. The image shows a celebration in Argentina, with the national football team riding on an open-air bus in Buenos Aires after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Reverse image search of the second image led us to a report published by The Mirror on 18 December 2022. The same image was there with a caption, “Argentine soccer fans celebrate their team’s World Cup victory over France in Buenos Aires”

Upon further search, we found the same image in the stock image website Alamy also. It also carried the same information as “Argentina soccer fans celebrate their team’s victory over Croatia in a World Cup semifinal match, by the Obelisk, in downtown Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022”.

Taking account of these evidences we can understand that both pictures are from Argentina after winning Fifa World cup.

So the images shared on social media linking it to the protest rally against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal are not related to it. These pictures are from Argentina after winning Fifa World cup in 2022.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be False. Both images are from Argentina after winning Fifa World cup in December 2022. Not related to India or Arvind Kejriwal.
