An old image of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is being shared with the claim that she fabricated a recent forehead injury.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has suffered a major injury in an accident last day. She has been taken to the state-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata. According to a hospital official, the 69-year-old politician slipped and hit her head on furniture at her home, shortly after she returned from an event in South Kolkata’s Ballygunge.

In this situation, social media has surfaced with a set of images showing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee being shared with a claim that she has faked her head injury. The first image shows Mamata Banerjee with a bleeding wound in the middle of the forehead, while the second shows a bandage closer to the right side, near the hairline.

The caption of the post states, “Mamata Banerjee is the world’s first victim of “Moving wound syndrome”. In this syndrome, wounds move from one place to another place of the body overnight. Let’s hope that this syndrome will help Mamata Banerjee in diverting public’s attention from these things: 1. Rs 1,609.5 crore Electoral Bond Donations which TMC received. 2. Sandeshkhali violence

Fact Check-

We began our investigation by conducting a reverse image search on Google and we found the first image of West Bengal CM with a bleeding wound in the middle of her forehead, was shared by the All India Trinamool Congress’  Twitter account on 14 March 2024. These images were posted with a caption, “Our chairperson Mamata Banerjee sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers”.

As per reports, she was rushed to the state-run SSKM Hospital and was discharged after two hours with three stitches on the forehead and one on the nose. A series of tests confirmed that her condition was stable.

Second image 

We conducted a reverse image search for the second image of Mamata Banerjee with a bandage on her forehead; the results led us to a news report from 24 January this year. The report states that, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained a forehead injury after her car had to halt to avoid a collision with another vehicle. The accident occurred while Banerjee was returning from an administrative review meeting in Purba Bardhaman. She later met Governor C V Ananda Bose at Raj Bhavan. Banerjee is currently suffering from pain and swelling, but has taken some medicines.

At the time, many news reports were published about this, and Mamata Banerjee herself addressed a press conference in front of Raj Bhavan following the incident. The image that went viral was taken at this time.
