Has The Election Commission Of India Fixed The Dates For The 2024 Lok Sabha Elections? Know The Truth.

Currently, social media is buzzing with the posts related to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections date. Political parties are also gearing up by holding rallies and public meetings. Against this backdrop, a post mentioning the dates of upcoming elections is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that the Election Commission of India had released the dates for the election. 

The post mentions that code of conduct and nomination filing dates are scheduled on 12 March and 28 March respectively. 19 April has been set as the polling day and the results of the elections will be out on 22 May. The new government will form on 30 March 2024. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. ECI has not yet announced any dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Fact Check- 

We first searched for this topic using various keywords. As a result, we got a tweet from the Election Commission of India on 24 February. Through this tweet, the Election Commission has indicated that a false notification is currently going viral on social media regarding the date of the upcoming elections. The Election Commission has also clarified that it has not decided the date of the election. The date will be announced by the media once it is confirmed.

In another post, a notice has been issued by the Election Commission stating that the date mentioned is not the actual date of the election. This date was published only for the purpose of planning the activities of the officials of ECI. The exact date of Lok Sabha polls will be announced in due course.

Fact Crescendo spoke to the Election Commissioner’s personal assistant. He refuted the claim and informed that no notification of any kind has been published nor the date has been officially announced for the Lok Sabha elections. The date seen in the viral post on social media has not been disclosed by the Election Commission of India.
