Is this a recent video of farmers insulting the Indian flag during the protest? Know the truth

Currently, a video of a few people playing with a football wrapped in the Indian National flag is going viral on social media. With flags and loud speakers on hands, this video looked like a visual of some protest. 

Social media users are claiming that this is a video of the recent farmer protest. Some users even questioned, “What kind of farmers are these people?”

However, Fact Crescendo found that the video was shared without proper context. This is an old video from 2023 and not related to the recent farmer protest.

Fact Check- 

First, we closely watched the video and found that ‘Nijjar’s Killing In Canada’ is written on the truck ’in the background and people were holding Khalistani flags. 

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to the same video tweeted by a user on 25 July 2023. Sharing the video, the user tweeted “These spineless people are kicking the flag of their own country. What good can these immigrants do for the country that’s using them as vote banks…one day they’ll be a problem for the ones giving them leverage and protection. Do these foreign countries think they’ll go back to Khalistan if at all formed?? They won’t as they’re not interested, all they’re interested in is the funds they get by doing this drama abroad.”

From the above fact, it is clear that this is an old video and not related to the current farmers’ protest.

Keeping the above facts in mind, we ran a keyword search which led to a report published on Deccan Herald’s website on 27 September 2023. According to the report, after Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused PM Narendra Modi and his government of being involved in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the incident of few people with Khalistani flag were seen playing football wrapped with football.

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. An old video of Khalistani protesting against the Modi government over the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada went viral as farmers disrespecting the Indian flag during the recent protest.
