False

Is there a risk of electric shock when using Bluetooth earphones in a railway station? Know the truth.

In this video, a person falls when a high-voltage wire falls on his head. The claim that the man was electrocuted because he wore earphones in his ears is false.

A video of a railway station is going viral on social media. In which it can be seen that two people are standing at the station while one person falls down on the railway track due to a sudden electric current. The video is being shared claiming that the person seen in the video got an electric shock because he was using earphones while keeping the internet activated on his mobile.

The video is circulating with the caption “As the net was activated in the mobile ear phone, the current passed from the high tension cable in the train and reached the brain through the ear and what happened after that..?

See it yourself..!Always avoid using earphones, blue tooth on railway platform and do not stand “close to train track” on the platform while travelling”.

Fact Check-

We started the investigation by doing reverse image search and keyword search of the viral video, as a result of which we found the news published by India.com on 9 December 2022. According to the report, this video is of the incident that took place at Kharagpur railway station in West Bengal.

The India Today report published on 8 December, 2022 states that “A railway official suffered burn injuries after he was electrocuted by a live wire at Kharagpur railway station in West Bengal. The official, a travelling ticket examiner (TTE), was standing on a platform when a high-voltage wire snapped over his head”.The person burnt in the accident has been identified as Sujan Singh Sardar. Railway employees and passengers saved him.

Indian Railways Chief Project Manager Ananth Rupanagudi shared the same video on December 8, 2022 and said, “A freak accident – a long piece of loose cable, taken by a bird somehow came in contact with the OHE wire and the other end came down and touched a TTE’s head. He suffered burn injuries but is out of danger and under treatment – at Kharagpur station yesterday afternoon”.

Fact Crescendo further contacted the DRM office of Kharagpur station. They clarified us that the claim made with the video is false. TTE officer Sujan Singh was not electrocuted because he had Bluetooth earphones or wireless buds in his ears. The accident took place on December 7, 2022 around noon. He was injured when a high voltage wire fell on his head. Railway employees and passengers saved him.

So based on these evidences, we can clearly understand that the video shared with the post is completely wrong to say that Bluetooth and earphones caused the current.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the video to be False. The video shows the incident that happened at Kharagpur railway station. In this video, a person falls when a high-voltage wire falls on his head. The claim that the man was electrocuted because he wore earphones in his ears is false.
