Is this a recent video of a couple of men beating a woman in Uttar Pradesh? Know the truth.

Currently a video of a couple of people beating a woman on the street is going viral on social media. Those people are beating her with sticks and the woman can be seen bleeding. Later the woman can be heard saying that those people were molesting her by pulling her dress and inappropriately touching her. 

Social media users are claiming that in a recent incident from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh where Samajwadi Party workers of INDI Alliance molest and beat a woman on the street. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old incident and it has no connection with the INDI Alliance. 

What’s the claim? 

Sharing the video, a social media user wrote, “This is how INDI Alliance exploits. In Mainpuri, a woman was molested in front of her husband and daughter, when she protested, she was beheaded and beaten to death”

Fact Check-

A relevant keyword search led us to a screengrab from the viral video published on Deccan Herald website on 22 December 2016. According to the report, three people in Kishani village of Mainpuri district of UP were arrested by police for molesting and assaulting a woman. The woman along with her family asked them for a location. At that moment, these people passed vulgar comments and molested her. When she resisted, they became violent and started beating her. Police arrested one of those miscreants at that time. 

Indian Express reported that when the couples were moving in a market place in Kishani village of Mainpuri district, a group of people pulled the woman’s dress and molested her. When she resisted their moves, they hit her on the head with a stick. Those people also attacked her husband in front of their children. Police registered a case and arrested the main accused.

A video of the same incident was also uploaded on India TV’s YouTube channel on 21 December 2016. In the video the woman can be seen complaining to the police that a few miscreants pulled her dress while the local public just stood there and watched the incident. The woman kept demanding the arrest of those goons. Later, police registered a case and arrested one accused. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old incident from 2016 from Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh. This incident has no link with the INDI Alliance.
