The woman in the viral dance video is Mradula Mahajan, a content creator, not Ananya Das IAS, the ex-district collector of Sambalpur

A video of a woman dancing to the song ‘Mere Ghar Ram Aaye Hain’ rapidly went viral on social media, with the claim that the woman in the video is Ananya Das, the district collector of Sambalpur, Odisha.

The caption states, “Dance performance by Sambalpur collector Mrs Ananya Das (IAS) Jayi shree ram”

Fact Check

We began our investigation using keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us to the same dance video uploaded on YouTube on 8 January, 2024. This was uploaded by Mradula Mahajan. The video was titled “Mere Ghar Ram easy dance Choreography”. 

Keeping this in mind, we checked Mradula Mahajan’s Instagram page

mradula217and found that the same dance was uploaded on her account on 6 January. The caption states, “After spending a long time in exile,
Raghunandan is once again returning to his city. Diwali and Ram Navami in January, we are celebrating together this time”.

Meanwhile, when the video went viral, Ananya Das IAS herself clarified that she was not the dancer in the video. The caption reads as “Truly a good performance- sadly not mine”

Ananya Das has recently been appointed as the Joint Secretary to the Government, in the Handloom, Textiles & Handicrafts Department. Akshay Sunil Agrawal, the collector of Mayurbhanj, will succeed her as the collector of Sambalpur.

Taking account of all these evidences we can clearly understand that it is Mradula Mahajan in the viral dance video, not the IAS officer Ananya Das.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The woman in the dance video is Mradula Mahajan, a content creator, not Ananya Das IAS, the ex-district collector of Sambalpur.
