Time’s Person of the Year 2023 is Taylor Swift, not Elon Musk

American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift was named Time’s Person of the Year 2023, not Elon Musk. Musk was named the magazine’s Person of the Year in 2021.

An image of the cover photo of the TIME magazine is circulating on social media claiming that the magazine has awarded the tag of “Person of the Year” to Tesla CEO and Twitter owner Elon Musk .The magazine cover with Musk’s face also carries another picture with his son in his arms. 

Caption states “Breaking: Elon Musk Is Time’s Person Of The Year 2023 Read more in the first comment.” The first comment contains a link to an article from Daily News 1 Press with the headline: “Breaking: Elon Musk Is Time’s Person Of The Year. The article opens by saying that in a “momentous turn of events,” Musk was named Person of the Year, 2023.

Fact Check-

At first we checked for the news regarding the Time person of the year 2023 and we found on 5 December 2023, TIME announced that Taylor Swift, an American singer-songwriter, had been selected as the Person of the Year for 2023. The front page archive for 2023 editions also can be seen below.

The TIME Magazine has also shared on twitter magazine covers with the caption: “Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) is TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year.”

Conducting a reverse Image Search of the magazine cover in the viral image, we found that Musk was named Time Person of the Year in 2021. The magazine cover in the article matches with the one in the viral post.

By performing a reverse image search of the other image of Elon Musk holding his son led us to the original image on Getty Images. The description reads, “NEW YORK – DECEMBER 13: Elon Musk and son X Æ A-12 on stage at TIME Person of the Year on December 13, 2021, in New York City.” 

Taylor Swift was the magazine’s choice for Person of the Year, not Elon Musk, nor is he listed in the shortlist published by Time. However, the claims in the article and the Facebook posts are false.
