Muslim woman wants dentist to close his eyes while treating her when she removes hijab- a scripted video goes viral as real incident

The viral video is a part of a scripted interview made by a YouTube channel and not a real conversation with a Muslim woman

A video showing an interview sequence between a man and a woman in a burqa, where she says that she will remove her hijab in front of a dentist only if he treats her with closed eyes, is going viral on social media. The video contains closed captions in English, according to which the interviewer is asking questions related to wearing a hijab. The woman responding discusses Islamic customs and gives an explanation for why, even in a women’s college, her face might be covered.  The clip ends with the interviewer asking the woman what she would do if she had to go to a male dentist. The woman responds that she would take off her hijab but the dentist would need to close his eyes.

The caption of the video states, “This lady says if she has to go to a Male Dentist, she would remove her Hijab, but expects the dentist to cover his eyes shut and then check out her tooth issues”.

Fact Check-

By closely observing the viral video, we noticed a logo on the bottom left of the video frame. “TV Vikrama” was written on the logo. We discovered that it is a Kannada-language YouTube channel.

After conducting a relevant keyword search on YouTube, we discovered the extended version of the viral video on TV Vikrama’s channel. The video was uploaded by the channel on 18February 2022.

At the beginning of the video, we can see a disclaimer displayed on the screen in Kannada which can be translated as: “This fictional interview is an attempt to give some message to some children when they are destroying their future by thinking that religion is the biggest thing while they are getting education” .The same disclaimer can also be found in the description section of the video. This shows that the video does not depict a real interview.

The artists featured in the video were identified as Kirik Keerthi and Mumthas. As per his Instagram bio, Kirik Keerthi (the interviewer in the viral video) is a “Journalist, Bigboss 4 Runner, Actor, Director, Host, Influencer”. We also found the Instagram page of Mumthas, there the bio part mentions she is an employee at TV Vikrama. She can be seen appearing in several other videos posted by the channel where she is not wearing a hijab.

An interview of Kirik Keerthi can be seen here. Several other videos of Mumthas of TV Vikrama can be seen here. Through these evidences, we can understand that the viral video is actually a part of a scripted interview made by a YouTube channel.
