Is this a real image of a signboard on a street in the UK with Arabic text on it? Know the truth.

Currently, an image of a signboard with both English and Arabic texts written on it is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that this is a signboard on the street of the UK which shows that the country is gradually turning into an Islamic state.

However, fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an altered image. No Arabic language texts were found in the original image.

Fact Check-

We found that the text written on the signboard in Arabic has smaller fonts compared to the text written in English. We also found that the alpha-numeric texts written beside English are missing near the Arabic language. This raised our suspicion as to whether the viral image is a real one.

After this, with the help of Google Lens, we translated the words writing in Arabic text to English. We found that these Arabic texts are just simple random words and are not related to the names of any destinations. The Arabic word below Harrogate translated to ‘Hello’ in English, the word below Leeds Shipley and Keighley translated to ‘Crazy People Welcome’ and ‘Cat Swallows You’ respectively.

A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same image tweeted by a user on 19 May 2016. It can be seen clearly that there is no Arabic text on the same sign. The tweet reads, “And here’s the road sign before it was photoshopped to meet your hateful, hate-filled agenda.

According to a report, this image was first shared by a controversial columnist Katie Hopkins in 2016. At that time, many Twitter users pointed out that the image shared by her was morphed. The real sign board is from Fagley Lane and Harrogate Road junction in Eccles hill and had no Arabic text on it.

Using the above clue, we searched for the exact location of the signboard. Below you can see the Google Map Street View of the location.

So, it can be concluded that the viral image was doctored. There is no Arabic text on the signboard.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The image shared by the user was altered. In the real image there is no Arabic text on the signboard.
