Is this a video of a rally with Islamic kalma written on the Indian flag after Congress won in Telangana? Know the truth.

Recently, Congress won the Telangana Assembly elections 2023 with 64 seats. It has elected TPCC chief Revanth Reddy as its leader. Revanth Reddy sworn as Chief Minister of the state on 7 December. 

Against this backdrop, a video of a huge rally is going viral on social media. In the video, people can be seen carrying India’s national flag in which Ashok Chakra was replaced with Islamic kalma. Users are claiming that this is a recent video from Telangana after Congress won the elections. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. Although the video is from Telangana, this has no connection with recent election results. This is an old video after Nupur Sharma made derogatory remarks on Prophet Mohammad.

Fact Check- 

A relevant keyword search on Google led us to the same video uploaded on Times Now YouTube channel on 10 June 2022. According to the report, this incident took place at Masjid-e-Rehmat clock tower in Mahbubnagar, Telangana. Slogans were also raised against Nupur Sharma and BJP demanding the former’s arrest. 

The protestors were also seen waiving Indian tricolor in which Ashok Chakra was replaced with Islamic Kalma. This rally was carried out after Nupur Sharma made derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad. 

We also came across a tweet from 2022 in which an image of the similar flag can be seen during a protest. This tweet covers the protest and violence in 9 states after Nupur Sharma’s remark. 

The tweet reads, “Today, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein visited Mecca Masjid & a protest broke out outside a mosque in Hyderabad. Ashoka Chakra was removed from the National flag & replaced with Kalma in Mahabubnagar.”

Further keyword search on YouTube led us to the original video on DNA Live channel in 2022. At 33.15 minute timestamp, you can see the viral clip that is circulating on social media. It was reported that this incident was from Telangana and the protestors replaced Ashok Chakra from the flag with kalma. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old video from 2022. This protest was carried out in Telangana after Nupur Sharma made derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad. This is not a recent video after Congress won the Telangana Assembly election.
