Old video from Japan shared as recent visuals from Philippines earthquake.

Viral video is from Japan and dates back to 2021.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Mindanao, Philippines , on December 2, prompting a tsunami warning. According to the National Center for Seismology, this earthquake occurred at 8:07 pm. Its center was at a depth of 50 kilometres in the ground.Following this incident, social media users shared a video claiming that the visuals were from an earthquake that struck Philippines. In the viral video, 

Caption of the video states, “Philippines was shaken near Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, by an earthquake of magnitude 7.8. Power can be see by water spilling out of tub”.

Fact Check-

We conducted a reverse image search on Google with the key frames of the viral video to find the original source. As a result, we found this Youtube video, dated 15February, 2021 with a caption, “Water Spills Out of Bathtub as it Shakes Rigorously During Earthquake in Japan.” 

The same video featured in The Weather Channel, dated 23 February, 2021 and captioned it as footage of the earthquake in Japan. It confirms that the video is not related to the recent earthquakes that struck the Philippines.

We also found a report by Reuters from 13 February 2021 which said that according to Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake had a 7.3 magnitude. Based on the facts and evidence, it is clear that the viral video is not related to the recent Philippines earthquake. 

Conclusion–

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The viral video is from an earthquake that hit Japan in 2021and is not related to the recent Philippines earthquake.
