Image from 2012 shared linking to Israel-Hamas conflict

The image dates back to 2012. According to sources, the image was l taken during a street performance in Bahrain. It is unrelated to the current Israel-Hamas conflict.  

Thousands of children have been murdered, maimed, injured, or arrested by Israeli forces during the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. More than 6,000 children have been killed in Gaza – not counting those still missing or buried under the rubble.

Against this backdrop, an image claimed to be from Gaza during the Israel-Hamas conflict is going viral on social media. The image shows a child under the boot of a soldier. Users who shared the image claim that this is a picture of a Palestinian child. The caption states, “THIS IS HOW ISRAELIS TREAT CHILDREN”.

Fact Check

We carefully observed the image and went through the comments under the post and found that the picture in this post is cropped and is being misrepresented. You can see the uncropped image below in a tweet with the caption “This isn’t an IDF soldier or an Israeli. This is from a demonstration against Israel and showcases a guy dressed up in green, with an Israeli flag on his shirt over a girl depicting a Palestinian being abused. In short: It’s fake.”

We started our investigation by running a Google reverse image search, whose results revealed that the image had been uploaded to the internet several years ago. This made it clear that the picture is old. Below you can see the complete image uploaded on +972 Magazine on 1 February 2012.

The full image from 2012 shows an individual dressed up in green during a demonstration. It is not an image of an Israeli civilian or IDF soldier abusing a Palestinian. According to sources, the image was likely taken during a street performance in Bahrain.

Taking account of these evidences we can understand that the image is old and unrelated to the current Israel-Hamas conflict.
