An old video of a brawl in Dublin falsely shared linking to recent riot.

The video shows a brawl involving some men and a woman in a Dublin restaurant, but it is from 2021. It has no connection to the current riot in Dublin.

Violent riots that broke out across Dublin city centre on 23 November evening flared after a knife attack on children and their care assistant outside a school earlier in the day. In this backdrop, a video went viral on social media, allegedly showing waiters in the Irish capital fighting “fascists” from the streets amid the current riot.

The caption of the post states “You’re watching Dublin waiters kicking fascists off the streets of our city. This is how we do it comrades. Let’s speak to the bastards in the language they understand”.

But in probe we found that the viral video is two years old and unrelated to the recent disturbances in Dublin.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on Google and whose results led us to a video report by the Sunday World published on 18 June 2021. It mentions, “three men have been arrested a violent street fight between group of waiters/bar staff and a gang of youths in central Dublin”. A group of teens and early 20s youths threw bottles at workers at a pub in Dublin. The incident occurred at around 9.30 pm and three youths were arrested and questioned at Garda station. One worker was treated for wounds from a broken bottle at St James’ hospital. The incident was witnessed by shoppers and public members enjoying outdoor hospitality.

The same video was uploaded on YouTube also on 20 June, 2021 with the caption, “Gang attacks restaurant workers on South William Street in Dublin”.

As per another report, “According to citizens who witnessed the situation at the time, four bullies, consisting of teenagers and men in their early 20s, harassed a pregnant black woman in the restaurant by blowing cigarette smoke in her face. Restaurant employees who saw this warned them not to harass the woman, and a fight broke out between the restaurant employees and the bully”.

Thus it is clear that an old video of a brawl in Dublin falsely shared linking to recent riot,

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The video shows a brawl involving some men and a woman in a Dublin restaurant, but it is from 2021. It has no connection to the current riot in Dublin.
