2016 video shared linking to recent riot in Dublin

This video shows a confrontation between two Nigerian tenants and Irish landlords and it dates back to 2016. It is unrelated to the recent riot in Dublin.

Violent riots that broke out across Dublin city centre on 23 November evening flared after a knife attack on children and their care assistant outside a school earlier in the day. In this backdrop, a video went viral on social media, allegedly showing a fight between two black men and a group of white people .

The caption of the post states “In #Dublin cultural enrichers threaten native #Irish with sticks. They’re in charge now. But in probe we found that the viral video is two years old and unrelated to the recent disturbances in Dublin.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on Google and whose results led us to a report by the Daily Post published on 19 May 2017.

According to the report, “two Nigerians being pushed out of their home by their white landlord in the United Kingdom”.

But another search using related terms brought us to a 13 September, 2016 news story from the Irish Independent. According to the report, the incident occurred on South Circular Road in Dublin. The owner allegedly paid the renters a sum of money to make an agreement for them to leave. However, when the owner arrived to depart the property, the residents refused to leave. A violent confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, leading to the owner calling the police. A wheelie bin set ablaze, requiring fire brigade intervention. Two people were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. Police made no arrests and the occupants agreed to leave the damaged house.

In further search we found a longer version of the same video on You Tube also with the caption “Two Nigerian Guys In Dublin Fight Irish Landlord Who Tried To Send Them Away From His House”.

Thus it is clear that an old video of a fight in Dublin falsely shared linking to recent riot.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video shows a confrontation between two Nigerian tenants and Irish landlords and it dates back to 2016. It is unrelated to the recent riot in Dublin.
