Social media users are claiming that the Indian Women’s hockey defeated Australia in the hockey world cup finals and became champions.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The viral video is a celebration of the Indian Women’s hockey team after defeating Japan in Asian Championship Trophy.
What’s the claim?
Sharing the video, social media users are claiming that the Indian Women’s Hockey team took revenge from Australia by defeating the latter in the Hockey world cup and becoming the champions.
After having a close look at the viral video, we noticed that ‘Women’s Asian Champions Trophy’ was written in the background. From this it is clear that this is not a hockey world cup match.
A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same video uploaded on The Economic Times YouTUbe Channel. According to the report, this is a celebration of the Indian Women’s Hockey team after beating Japan by 4-0 in the Asian Champions Trophy.
We also found a similar image on another website which states that India defeated Japan in the Women’s Hockey Asian Champions Trophy final played in Ranchi, Jharkhand. India won the match by 4-0 score

Further search revealed that the Indian Women’s Hockey team had never won any final match in the world cup. We also found that the Women’s Hockey world cup was held last in 2022 in Spain and the Netherlands in which the Netherlands became the Champion. This year the Hockey World Cup was not organized.

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The Women’s hockey World Cup was organized previous year in which the Netherlands emerged as champions. The viral video is of the Indian Women’s hockey team’s victory over Japan in Asian Champions Trophy.
