Did Glenn Maxwell touch Sachin Tendulkar’s feet after winning against Afghanistan? Know the truth.

Recently, team Australia miraculously won their match against Afghanistan during Cricket World Cup 2023. At one point, it was looking impossible for the Aussies to reach the target but Glenn Maxwell’s double century confirmed Australia’s place in the semi finals. 

Against this backdrop, an image of Glenn Maxwell touching Sachin Tendulkar’s feet is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that after victory, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell touched Sachin Tendulkar’s feet. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the image to be altered. There is no such incident of Maxwell touching the legend Sachin Tendulkar’s feet. 

What’s the claim? 

Sharing the image, a social media user wrote, “After scoring a double century and helping Australia win the match against Afghanistan, Maxwell is touching Sachin Tendulkar’s feet. This is a proud moment for all the Indians.”

Fact Check- 

First, we tried to find out if Sachin Tendulkar was available in the stadium during the Australia and Afghanistan match. A relevant keyword search on Google led us to a video on ESPNcricinfo website. In this video we saw Sachin Tendulkar interacting with the Afghanistan team, wearing the same dress which he is wearing in the viral image. Also we heard Rashid Khan testifying his experience of meeting Sachin Tendulkar. 

Hence, it is clear that Sachin Tendulkar was available on the stadium during Australia and Afghanistan match. 

Did Maxwell touch Sachin’s feet? 

To know about this, we found a replay of the whole match that was played between Australia and Afghanistan on the Hotstar website. At 9.45 hour timestamp we can see the ending of the match when Maxwell hit a six to finish the game. 

During this time, we can see Maxwell wearing a cap and playing. But in the viral image Maxwell can be seen wearing a helmet while touching Sachin’s feet. In the rest of the video, Maxwell was not found wearing a helmet. This raised our suspicion.

Below you can see the comparison image. 

We found an image of Sachin Tendulkar talking to the Afghanistan team on the Getty Images website.

We found that Sachin’s body posture, expression, folds on the dress are similar to the viral image. Below you can see the comparison. 

From the above facts it is clear that there was no such incident of Maxwell touching Sachin’s feet. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found that different images were put together to create the viral image. Hence, the viral image is an altered one. There was no such incident when Maxwell touched Sachin’s feet.
