Is this a video of the recent attack on Pakistan Air Force Base? Know the truth.

A recent incident of an attack on Pakistan air base in Mianwali in the Punjab province shook the nation. Few militants attacked an air force training base and destroyed three aircrafts and a fueling tanker. Three out of the nine militants were reported to be killed. 

Against the backdrop of this incident a video of a burning fighter jet is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that this video is of the recent attack on the Pakistan air force base in Mianwali in Punjab province of Pakistan. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. Although the incident is from Pakistan, this is not related to the recent attack on the Mianwali Air Force base. This is an old video. 

What’s the claim? 

Sharing the image, social media users are claiming that the viral video is a visual of the recent attack on the Air Force base in Mianwali of the Punjab province in Pakistan. Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) had claimed that their suicide bombers attacked this airbase and destroyed 5 aircrafts.

Fact Check- 

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe led us to the same video uploaded 6 months ago on the Reddit website. As per the information, the fighter jet in the video was destroyed by PTI terrorists in Pakistan. 

A relevant keyword search on Google led us to The Free Press Journal report published on 9 May 2023. According to the report, this is a Chinese dummy jet which was installed outside Pakistan Air Force base. The supporters of Imran Khan who were protesting in the Mianwali region, destroyed this Chinese ShenyangF-6 dummy aircraft. This incident took place after Imran Khan’s arrest.  

A video of this incident was uploaded on the Hindustan Times YouTube channel on 10 May 2023. According to the report, this is a video of a dummy Chinese aircraft burnt by the supporters of Imran Khan in Mianwali. The violence erupted after the arrest of the former Pakistan PM Imran Khan. Violence in many other areas of the country was reported post Imran Khan’s arrest. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old video from Pakistan when supporters of Imran Khan burnt a dummy Chinese aircraft in Mianwali region of the Punjab province post his arrest.
