Old video of Palestinian journalist and paramedic killed by missile shared as recent

The video related to an Israel-Hamas conflict, is from 2014

A video of two Palestinian men getting hit by a missile has gone viral on social media in the midst of the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. Two men can be seen in the video running away from a conflict-torn area. The guy carrying the camera can be heard discussing their choices for avoiding the bombardment. Suddenly, there a loud noise and the camera falls to the ground. The lifeless hand of the cameraman can be seen as the recording continues. The on-screen text then states “Both Fouad Jaber and Khaled Hamad were killed by this missile. Khaled’s camera continued to record after he died.”

The caption of the post states, “Palestinian journalist films the moment an Israeli strike kills him and a fellow medic on live TV “The most moral army”  #OMAEK #TÜRKIYEYÜZYILI #GAZABOMBING #gaza”

Fact Check-

We began our investigation by carefully observing the viral video, where we discovered the logo of Al Jazeera. Keeping this in mind, we used keyword search and key frames from the video on Google, and found the same video in an Al Jazeera documentary that was uploaded to its YouTube channel in July 2016.

According to the Al Jazeera channel Palestinian cameraman, Khaled Hamad, documented the 2014 Israeli assault on Shujayea, a densely populated neighbourhood in the Gaza Strip. The raid was part of Operation Protective Edge, aimed at stopping rocket fire from Gaza. The film shows Hamad and local paramedics attending to the dead and wounded, risking his life to document the atrocities committed against civilians. The raid resulted in the death of several journalists, including Rami Rayan, who died while shooting stills of a busy market. Hamad’s footage is mostly his, and his camera continues to roll even after he has taken his final breath.

This makes it clear that the video has no connection to the recent Israel-Palestine conflict in any way.

In a July 21, 2014 news article, The Guardian reported on Hamad’s death with a caption, “Palestinian cameraman killed in Gaza while covering Israeli attacks”. The report adds “A Palestinian news cameraman, Khaled Hamad, was killed early today in Gaza, reportedly during Israeli artillery shelling of the city’s Shujaya (aka Shuja’iyya) residential district”.

Taking account of these evidences we can clearly understand that an old incident shared linking to the recent Israel-Hamas conflict.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video be Misleading. The video related to an Israel-Hamas conflict, is from 2014. It is an Al Jazeera episode (Gaza-the last picture) showing Israeli strikes against Hamas. That resulted in the death of cameramen Khalid Hamad.
