Old video of staged funeral from Jordan during the time of covid lockdown shared inking to Hamas- Israel conflict

The video was shot in Jordan in 2020 and is unrelated to the Hamas-Israel conflict.

As the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, there is a video going viral claiming to be footage of Palestinians performing a fake funeral. The video shows a group of youths carrying a small boy’s “body” that has fell victim to Israeli airstrikes. However, in the end as air raid sirens blare, they drop the stretcher and leave the “body” behind, but then the lifeless boy suddenly gets up and runs away as well. going to a funeral with a dead body.

The caption of the video states, “Palestinians are seen carrying a small boy’s body chanting religious praises. They’ve even granted an interview to Al Jazeera.. alleging this boy fell victim to #Israeli airstrikes, as sirens blare, they leave the body. Suddenly lifeless body runs away”.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on one of the key frames from the video. The results led us to a report by the Dubai-based newspaper Alroeya published on 24 March 2020. It states that a group of youths in Jordan staged a fake funeral to get around the country’s Covid-19 restrictions.

In further search we found Jordan-based newspaper, Roya News English also shared the same video on Facebook on 23March, 2020. The caption states, “Fake funeral! People still breaching the law despite the warnings”, which confirmed that the viral video is not related to the ongoing Hamas- Israel conflict.

The video was uploaded as a satirical example of Jordanians finding creative ways to break COVID-19 rules. At that time, various media reported that a group of young people in Jordan were organizing a fake funeral procession to break the covid lockdown. 

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be false. The video shows a group of young people in Jordan were organizing a fake funeral procession to break the covid lockdown in March 2020.It is unrelated to the Hamas-Israel conflict.
