Viral claim is false- Pakistan flag is not bigger than the Indian flag in Lulu Mall, Kerala

LuLu Mall Kochi, Kerala clarified that flags of all countries participating in the ongoing Cricket World Cup were displayed at the same height at the mall.

The World Cup Cricket 2023 got underway on October 5^th, following this, flags from the ten World Cup participating countries were displayed at LuLu Mall in Kochi, Kerala. Meanwhile, on social media, an image allegedly showing the Pakistan flag being larger than other flags, including the Indian flag has gone viral. The image shows Pakistan flag is also displayed over other flags. The users who shared the image claimed that, it is a breach of code to place another Country’s flag above Indian tricolour. The viral posts further seek the authorities to take necessary action against Lulu Mall, Kerala. 

The caption states, “This picture is from Lulu Mall in Kerala. Pakistan’s flag was displayed & placed above the tricolour to celebrate the ongoing cricket World Cup. This is a breach of the flag code, concerned authorities should take note”

Fact Check-

We contacted LuLu mall office at Kochi, Kerala for the clarification and they denied the viral claim. They clarified, “Ahead of the Cricket World Cup celebration, the national flags of the various countries participating in the competition has been erected vertically at the Lulu Mall in Kochi. Each flag has been hung at the same level from the ceiling down. 

In the center of the mall, the flags of different countries were hung from the ceiling down at the same level. When the flags are photographed from above, and when photographed from the side of the path, the flags on the respective side appear larger, but when photographed from below, it is understood that everything is of equal size.

But there is some false propaganda in social media that the Pakistani flag is bigger and Indian flag is smaller. While it is natural for each country’s flag to look larger when viewed from the photographed side, the size hype for the Pakistani flag is completely false.

They further stated that some people are spreading false information on social media that the Pakistan national flag is larger than the Indian national flag, and as a result of this misinformation, the flags of all countries have been removed from the mall.
