Old video of Israeli attack on Gaza tower in 2021 shared as recent attack

This video dates back to May 2021 when Israeli airstrikes destroyed the 14-storey tower in Gaza City.

On October 7, 2023, Palestinian militant organisations led by Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of Israelis. In response, Israel launched a counter-offensive. Several videos allegedly related to this conflict are being circulated online.

A video depicting an airstrike demolishing a building is circulating widely on social media with the caption, “Israel launched Operation Iron Swords Israel destroys third Gaza tower eliminated Palestinian #Gaza”

Fact Check- 

When we carefully examined the viral video, we noticed a watermark of ‘Al Jazeera on it, taking it as a clue, we looked up with keywords reverse image search on Google  and found that the video was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of Al Jazeera English with the caption ‘Israel destroys third Gaza tower”. The video was uploaded on 14 May 2021.

The same video was uploaded on the official Twitter account of Al Jazeera on 13 May, 2021 with the caption, “This is the moment the 14-storey al-Shorouq tower, housing media offices in Gaza City, was completely destroyed by multiple Israeli air raids on Wednesday.”

According to a report published by CNN on 12 May titled ‘14-story building in Gaza collapses after Israeli airstrike,’ “An Israeli airstrike destroyed Al-Shorouk Tower in Gaza, according to CNN photojournalist Ibrahim Dahman who witnessed the event. This is the third high-rise building to be destroyed by the IDF since the escalation of violence began on May 10, 2021.”

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video be False. This is not a video from a recent Israeli airstrike in Gaza.The viral video dates back to May 2021 when Israeli airstrikes destroyed the 14-storey tower in Gaza City.
