An old image of a blast in 2014 during the war between Israel and Palestine went viral as a current incident.

A few days back, Hamas fundamentalists entered south Israel and killed many civilians and soldiers. According to some reports, they abducted many people and took them to Gaza. Many disturbing videos of this incident are going viral on social media. 

Against the backdrop of this, an image showing the explosion in a city is going viral. Social media users are claiming that this is a visual of the current war situation in Israel.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an image of an old incident from 2014. This is not Israel but Gaza. 

What’s the claim? 

Sharing the image a social media user wrote, “Horrific and heartbreaking scenes from Israel.

Dead people being stripped and paraded about like trophies on trucks, elderly women being driven into Gaza as hostages and the 5,000 rockets raining upon innocent civilians in Israel.

UNACCEPTABLE!!!”

Fact Check- 

A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same image uploaded on NewYork Post in 2014. According to the report, Israel massively bombarded Hamas in the three-week-old war. The blast destroyed Gaza’s only power plant. As a result, electricity and water supply to 17 million people in the Gaza Strip was interrupted.

‘The same visual can also be seen on a video uploaded on Al Jazeera English’s YouTube channel in 2017. The report states, “A two-year inquiry into the 2014 Gaza War by Israel’s official watchdog, the State Comptroller, has found the government failed to explore diplomatic solutions that could have avoided the seven-week conflict. The report also criticises Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet for ignoring earlier warnings that the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza would lead to grave consequences for Israel.”

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The viral image is of Gaza city during the 2014 war and not a visual of Israel. This image is not of current situations in Israel and Palestine.
