Video of a temple decoration shared as wedding hall decorated with currency notes

This video is from Sathya Ganapathy Temple in Bengaluru. The currency notes decorations were prepared as part of the week-long Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations.

 A video claiming to show a wedding venue being decorated with Rs 2 crore notes has now gone viral on social media. The visuals show a place beautifully decorated with garlands of different colored currency notes and other ornaments in the form of coins and spheres. The video is circulating with the caption “wedding reception stage decorated by currency notes worth 2 cores”.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on Google; the results led us to a report by Economic Times. According to this report, the video is from the Sri Sathya Ganapathy temple in Bengaluru, the temple was decorated at a cost of more than two crore rupees in connection with Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. 

In further search we found more information on an NDTV report. According to this report, “Sri Sathya Ganapathy Temple in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar is known for giving a unique touch to their premises during Ganesh Puja festivities every year. This time, they have gone a step ahead and decorated the temple using hundreds of coins and currency notes ranging from ₹ 10, ₹ 20, and ₹ 50 to ₹ 500 denominations. The temple used currency notes worth ₹ 2.18 crore and coins worth ₹ 70 lakh for decoration.”It took three months to prepare it,” Temple Trustee Mohan Raju Trustee told NDTV. “Whatever coins and currency notes have been used, they will be returned to those who have given to the temple,” he added.

NDTV tweeted the viral video with the caption “A temple in Bengaluru has decorated its premises with coins and currency notes worth lakhs. Every year, Sri Sathya Ganapathy Temple gives a unique touch to its decoration during Ganesh Chaturthi.”

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. Video of decoration with garlands of currency notes are not of the wedding hall. The decorations were prepared as part of the week-long Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations at the Sri Sathya Ganapathy Temple in JP Nagar, Bangalore.
