President rule imposed on the state of Maharashtra? No. This is an old news.

A video of ABP news reporting on the president’s rule in the state of Maharashtra is going viral on social media. It was reported that till the next chief minister of the state takes the oath, the president’s rule has been imposed in Maharashtra. All the decisions will be taken by the governor of the state.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is old news from 2019 and not a recent incident.

What’s the claim?

Sharing the video, social media users are claiming that the president’s rule was imposed on the state of Maharashtra till a new government was formed.

Fact Check-

A relevant keyword search on YouTube led us to the same news reported by ABP in 2019. According to the report, after the 2019 elections BJP failed to prove the majority which resulted in the imposing of the president’s rule in the state. It was mentioned, “Shiv Sena expressed willingness but could not prove ability and asked for an extension, Congressdid not reply in time whereas NCP continued to say that they were initiating talks with Congress in order to achieve the required number.Despite the governor giving 24 hours’ time to NCP, the President’s Rule has been imposed and amid all this, people suffer

According to the Times of India report in 2019, after Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari failed to form the government in Maharashtra, President Ram Nath Kovind imposed the president’s rule in the state. This took place after the Governor reported that no political parties in the state were in a position to form a stable government. In his report to the President, he cited his unsuccessful efforts to form a coalition government by making alliances.

Apart from all this, we also heard in the video that the name of the governor was mentioned as Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Upon searching, we found that the current Governor of Maharashtra is Ramesh Bias who was sworn in as the governor in February 2023,

From the above facts, it is clear that an old video is being shared as the current situation in Maharashtra where President’s rule has been imposed.

The second part of the video claimed that recently Lalu Prasad Yadav called PM Modi as NRI and criticized his foreign tours.

A keyword search on YouTube led us to the same news reported by ABP in 2014. Lalu Yadav can be heard saying, “Modi once said that Chinese and Pakistani army will not dare to come face to face with India but when he was doing his programs in Sabarmati, Chinese soldiers were destroying Indian bunkers.”

Although it is true that Lalu Yadav criticized PM Modi but this is an old incident from 2014 and not a recent one.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. Both the clips in the viral video are old. The news on the President’s rule in Maharashtra is from 2019 while the news about Lalu Yadav calling PM Modi is from 2014.
