This video does not show a woman collector in Karnataka state wearing a burqa during a flag hoisting ceremony on Independence Day.

A video of a burqa-clad woman, being accompanied by uniformed police officers during a flag hoisting event is going viral on social media with the claim that the she is a collector from Karnataka state. The users who shared the video added a communal angle also to the video, as they explain that a wrong vote can convert the whole country dominated by a specific community.

The caption states, “A single wrong vote of Hindus can turn the country into an Islamic country. A beginning has already been made in the state of Karnataka, while hoisting the flag, a collector wearing a burqa took the salute… a new beginning. Do you understand something or not..Being an IAS officer she violated the dress code action can be initiated. Wrong precedence.”

Fact Check

 When we observed the video carefully, we were able to identify the name ‘Kishtwar’ on the 77th Independence Day banner and ‘Chowgan ground, Kishtwar’. Keeping this in mind, we conducted a reverse image search using one of the video’s key frames and the results led us to a video report by Munsif daily. The caption states “Video of Burqa Clad VC DDC Hoisting Flag, Inspecting Independence Day Parade, Goes Viral”. As per the report “The 77th Independence Day celebrations in District Kishtwar were marked by exuberance and national pride. However, the event took an unexpected turn when the Vice-Chairperson of the District Development Council, Saima Parveen Lone, hoisted the tricolor while donning a burqa and face hijab, sparking conversations amidst the ongoing anti-hijab movement in India”

In further search, we found an extended version of the video published by Jammu and Kashmir based local media outlets fast news on their Facebook page. The description states “Saima Parveen lone vice chairperson Kishtwar hoist the National Flag at Chowgan ground kishtwar moreover First time in history vice chairperson kishtwar Saima Parveen lone addressed the General public of kishtwar with hijab”.

The Kishtwar district administration’s Facebook also uploaded the images from the event. It is stated in the caption that the Independence Day celebration was led by DDC Vice-Chairperson Mrs. Saima Parveen Lone in Kishtwar’s Chowgan Ground.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleading. The woman officer seen in the video is not the collector from Karnataka state; she is vice chairman of the District Development Council in Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir
