The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon on 23 August has created an atmosphere of joy across the country. India achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first country to land near the south pole of the Moon. Following this users have also been sharing various photos and videos related to the moon mission on social media. Among this an image of a group of sari-clad women with flowers in their hair hugging each other went viral on social media with the claim women scientists who were elated after the success of Chandrayaan-3. It is being claimed that ISRO women scientists were celebrating the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3.
Fact check
By performing reverse image search on Google led us to the same image published on the website of BBC news on 25 September, 2014. According to the report this image was taken during the successful completion of India’s Mars mission. It has been told that the “staff from the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) celebrate after the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft (Mom) successfully entered the Mars orbit”.

On September 24, 2014, ISRO’s satellite Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), unofficially termed it as Mangalyaan successfully entered the elliptical orbit of Mars. The mission was accomplished at a cost of ₹450 crore. With this achievement, India became the first country in the world to successfully send its satellite to Mars in the very first attempt.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that old image showing the success of Mars Orbit Mission falsely linked to the success of Chandrayaan-3.
