Is this a video showing the horrifying effect of Hilary Storm in Los Angeles? Know the truth.

Recently, The US and Mexico were hit by Tropical storm Hilary. This storm made landfall on the Baja California peninsula in Mexico on August 20. Its effect was felt in many places in the US. The speed of the wind was recorded to be 119 km/h. Many people had to be evacuated. More than 1000 flights were also canceled.

In the backdrop of this, a video of a flooded metro station is going viral on social media. It can be seen that while a few people were traveling in a train, a huge gush of water entered the station and flooded it. It was claimed that this incident took place in a metro station in Los Angeles during the Hilary storm.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is a video of an earthquake-themed park in Universal Studios and not an effect of Hilary storm.

What’s the claim?

Sharing the video, social media users are claiming, “The LA Metro Station on Wilshire/Vermont is flooding from the storm”

The same video is also viral on Twitter. A User wrote, “After The Tropical Storm Hilary, LA Metro Station on Wilshire/ Vermont is flooding from the storm”

Fact Check-

A Google Reverse Image Search on a keyframe of the viral video led us to Attraction Magazine’s official YouTube channel. We found a longer version of the viral video uploaded on the channel on 21 June 2022. The description of the video reads, “Earthquake while on Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood.” In this video, we could see a train entering a station. We also heard a narrator describing something to people about how the set had been prepared to give the effect of an earthquake.

We also found that Attraction Magazine covers all the best theme parks and attractions.

We found a few similarities between the viral video and the above video from YouTube. We found the same effect of water gushing into the station. We also found the color of the ceiling to be the same. Below you can see the comparison between both videos.

We also found a similar image on the Alamy website as well. It was mentioned that the visual is a simulation of an earthquake in a theme park in Universal Studios.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The viral video is not an effect of Hilary storm in LA. This is a clipped video of an earthquake theme park tour from Universal Studios.
