The video does not show people illegally entering Manipur from Myanmar

The video shows the lives of a nomadic family and their journey across the Iranian mountains, not people illegally entering Manipur from Myanmar.

Manipur is still raging amid ongoing ethnic clashes between the Meiteis and the Kukis. While addressing the violence in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah alleged that the conflict in Myanmar led to many Kukis crossing over from Myanmar into Manipur. He said that the political instability in Myanmar had prompted thousands of refugees to flee into Manipur across a porous border. Minister further added that this influx of people from Myanmar led to anxieties among the majority Meitei population in Manipur.

On this backdrop a video showing a group of people including women and children
moving from one place to another by climbing mountains has gone viral on the internet. Those sharing the video have claimed that it shows people from Myanmar entering Manipur illegally. The caption states, “Thief road from Myanmar to Manipur. How come to India by risking their lives to save their lives and spoil the atmosphere of India here. This six kilometer road has to be completed in a day”.

Fact Check-

A reverse image search on Google with the key frames from the viral video led us to a Facebook post from April this year carrying the same video. The video was uploaded with Kurdish captions mentioning that the people in the video are Kurdish, an ethnic group who reside in the mountainous region of Kurdistan.

In further search we found a longer version of the video on a Turkish YouTube channel called DENA on 12 March, 2023. The channel mentioned that the video is from Iran and uploaded the video with the caption, “An Iranian nomadic family with three young children travels a difficult path to reach their destination”.

Next, we checked the channel description, which said something like, “Welcome to Dana channel, Dana channel shows the life of Iranian nomads.” There are numerous videos on this channel page that describe the nomadic mountain life of the people who live in Mount Dena, which is a sub-range of the Zargos Mountains in Iran.

We also compared the visuals from the viral clip and the video uploaded on the Turkey-based YouTube channel. You can see a comparison of both images below.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The video shows the lives of a nomadic family and their journey across the Iranian mountains, not people illegally entering Manipur from Myanmar.
