Old image from MP shared linking to Haryana Demolitions

The image is from demolitions that followed the communal violence in Khargone, MP, in April 2022.

Amidst the violence in Haryana’s Nuh, to crack down on the rioters, the administrators demolished illegally constructed buildings. The bulldozer had already thundered about 753 constructions to the ground. However, last day the High Court reprimanded the Haryana government and ordered a ban on bulldozers. Meanwhile a viral image has been circulating on social media, claiming to show a Muslim man gazing at his destroyed home. 

The caption reads “A helpless Muslim man from Nuh, Haryana, watching his home’s demolition by the government.”

Fact Check-

By performing the reverse image search on Google led us to a report by the Scroll dated 19 October, 2022. The report titled “Khargone violence: 12-year-old boy asked to pay Rs 2.9 lakh for allegedly damaging public property” contained the viral image. The caption accompanying the photo read: “A person’s house in Khargone being demolished.” The photo’s source was listed as a “Special arrangement”.

On April 10, 2022, communal clashes broke out in Khargone after alleged stone-pelting at a Ram Navami procession. One person died in the violence, and 24 were injured, following which the Madhya Pradesh government demolished houses and shops belonging to Muslims claiming they were involved in the stone-pelting.

In further search we found a report in the Free Press Journal dated 11 April , 2022. The report titled “Bhopal: Khargone rioters will not be spared: Chief Minister” also featured the same viral image.

Regardless, the presence of the viral image on the internet since April 2022 confirms that it could not have been related to the demolition drive following the violence in Nuh, Haryana. We could not independently verify the source of this image; however, it is at least as old as April 2022.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral images to be False. The viral image is not related to the demolition drive following the violence in Haryana. The image is from demolitions that followed the communal violence in Khargone, MP, in April 2022.
