Video of nude protest of youth over fake caste certificate in Chhattisgarh shared linking to Manipur

The video shows youths protesting naked against people getting jobs on fake caste certificates in Chhattisgarh. 

A disturbing video of two Kuki women in Manipur being paraded naked and sexually assaulted by a large mob of men has sparked widespread protests across the country. As per the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), the incident is said to have occurred on 4 May in Kangpokpi district in Manipur, a day after clashes erupted between the two ethnic groups. The assaulters were Meiteis. Following this, P M Modi addressed the viral video and assured that the accused will not be spared. Four people who were allegedly part of the mob which paraded the women have been arrested so far. After the footage came out, the social media is full of anger against the central government.

On this backdrop, in a video, a group of men holding placards can be seen running and shouting some slogans naked on a road. The video has been shared by several users claiming that it shows people protesting over ‘the Manipur incident. 

One user shared the video with the caption “Need Justice For Manipur Volince #ManipurVideo #ManipurViralVideo #ManipurViolence”.

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along the video is false; it is neither from Manipur nor related to Manipur incident.

Fact Check-

A reverse image search on Google with the key frames of the video led us to a report published on NDTV ‘s website, published on  18 July states that in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur, youths belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes protested naked. The protesters are demanding action from the Baghel government against people getting government jobs through fake caste certificates. The four-day monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly began on Tuesday. A convoy of ministers’ vehicles was passing by the way and naked protesters were moving towards the assembly. According to the report, the police took more than a dozen protesters into custody.  

In further search we found the same video shared on the Facebook page of Punjab Kesari on 18 July. In the information provided with it, it has been told that people protesting against the Congress government in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur in the case of fake certificates.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral video to be False. The video is from Chhattisgarh’s Raipur where some youths protested naked against fake caste certificates being allegedly used to get jobs reserved for SC/STs. It is not related to the Manipur incident
