Video of animals running through the streets were not taken during recent protest in France

Video shows when animals at a circus had escaped onto the streets in the town of Ormesson-sur-Marne in France, and it dates back to 2020

Amid protests that erupted after a 17-year-old named Nahel Merzouk was fatally shot by a police officer in France last week, social media users are sharing an animal video claiming that they are related to the riot.  In the six seconds video, zebras and horses are seen on the streets alongside cars as spectators look on. The viral video is being shared with the caption “A Zoo in France has been forced open by rioters… Even lions नद many others animals have been let out on the streets.

Fact Check- 

We started investigation by reverse image and keyword search on Google, that led us to a report by NDTV, dated 14 April, 2020. It quoted a report by Huffington Post as saying that a zebra and two horses “escaped from a circus in the town of Ormesson-sur-Marne and made its way to the neighbouring town of Champigny-sur-Marne on the outskirts of the French capital. The owner of Badin Circus, from where the zebra and the horses escaped, told the news outlet that the animals are tame and did not wander too far from the circus”.

In further search we came across a video report by Le Parisien , dated 13April 2020, featuring the video of the zebra running freely amid vehicular traffic on the road. The description states “In Val-de-Marne, in Champigny-sur-Marne and Chennevières, a zebra and two ponies were seen on April 10 frolicking next to cars…the animals escaped from a nearby circus.”

We also found the same video in a tweet shared on 11 April 2020.

There is no evidence that animals have been released from Paris zoos amid riots in the city, this video predate the incident.

Conclusion-
