Old images of Gujarat Morbi hospital renovation work shared as Cuttack hospital ahead of Modi’s visit

Images are from Gujarat’s Morbi civil hospital taken in 2022, ahead of the PM Modi’s visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the site of the horrific train accident in Odisha’s Balasore in which more than 275 people lost their lives, and around 1,000 got injured, many of the severely. After taking stock of the station at the crash site, Modi went to the hospital in Cuttack where the victims are undergoing treatment. 

Following Modi’s visit, social media users shared two images of renovation work, the first image shows two people standing on a stool and working on the roof of the building, and the second image shows people working on the floor of the building. The caption states “On an account of PM’s Arrival, renovation process in going on in a full swing at #Cuttack government hospital. Fate of the Nation  #OdishaTrainAccident ”

Fact Check-

By performing the reverse image search on Google we found that the images were taken from a hospital in Morbi, Gujarat. Congress’ official Twitter account posted the same images on 31October, 2022 along with two other images from the same place. It states that restoration work, like painting and installing tiles, was completed at Morbi Civil Hospital before PM Modi’s visit.

India Today also published images on 1November, 2022 and credited the Indian National Congress for the photo. The report states that after the Morbi Bridge collapsed on 30 October, 2022, killing more than 130 people, Modi visited the Morbi Civil Hospital to meet the victims, and before his visit, repair work was carried out at the hospital.

Multiple news outlets have carried the viral photographs, stating that they are related to Morbi civil hospital renovation work prior to Modi’s visit. The hospitals, roads, and other infrastructure were renovated hours before Modi’s visit. 

You can see below the NDTV report of PM Modi’s visit to the train accident site in Odisha’s Balasore. He also met with injured people at hospitals in Cuttack. The PM was seen inspecting the site with fellow cabinet colleagues, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral images to be False. Images taken before PM Modi’s November 2022 visit to Morbi Civil Hospital in Gujarat have been shared as visuals captured before his recent visit to a hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, following the train accident.
