Yogi Adityanath paying tribute to Tipu Sultan- What’s the truth?

An image of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath bowing and paying tribute in front of a portrait of Tipu Sultan has gone viral on the internet.

Fact Check- 

We performed a reverse image search on the viral picture and found a similar image uploaded on Yogi Adityanath’s official verified Facebook page on 29 June, 2021. The photo caption mentioned the inauguration of a memorial to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.

Our research discovered that in June 2021, then-Indian President Ram Nath Kovind attended the laying of the foundation stone for the Dr. Ambedkar Memorial in Lucknow. We also found images of then-President Kovind paying his respects in front of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait, which is identical to the image in which Yogi Adityanath bowed to Dr. Ambedkar. This event has been covered by media outlets. which can be found here and here.

In further search we discovered a different shot of this event from the stock image site, Alamy. All of this proves that the portraits on the stage belong to Dr. Ambedkar and not Tipu Sultan.

You can see a comparison of both images below, we can clearly understand that the image of Tipu Sultan has been digitally added in place of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait. 

Conclusion- 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be Altered.  In the original picture, Yogi Adityanath is seen paying his respects to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, not Tipu Sultan
