Old scripted video shared as real incident

The viral video is a scripted one made by Maithili Bazar’s YouTube channel for entertainment.

Recently a video of a man beating a groom at a wedding ceremony claiming that a bride’s father was assaulting the groom for asking for a motorcycle as dowry has gone viral on social media. A one-minute video clip allegedly showing a quarrel between bride and groom over demanding a two-wheeler as dowry, and the groom ending up getting beaten with a slipper by his father-in-law in front of the guests.

The caption of the video states “Son-in-law asked for a motorcycle in dowry, father-in-law gave him slippers in front of everyone, video viral.

Fact Check- 

A Google reverse image search using the key frames from the viral video led us to a video posted on 8May, 2021 by the YouTube channel Maithili Bazar. We found the full-length version of the viral video uploaded there. The caption in Hindi roughly translated as  “After all, why did the bridegroom beat the bride at the time of farewell and the groom’s father beat the groom?”

The artists featured in the video were identified as Sunil Suman, Pooja Mishra, and Mohan Mandal in the description section. This demonstrates that the video was scripted. We discovered that the YouTube channel regularly uploads scripted videos while scanning through the other videos.

On our further investigation we found in the about section of Maithili Bazaar’s YouTube channel that the channel was launched on June 3, 2017. It was further written that this is a popular Maithili language channel where entertaining comedy videos in Maithili language are created and posted. 

We also found the Instagram page of ‘Saroj Suman there the bio part mentions that Maithili Bazar is a Youtube comedy channel and that their channel entertains viewers by showing Hindi Bhojpuri and Maithili short comedy videos.

Conclusion 

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be Misleding.The viral video is a scripted one made by Maithili Bazar’s YouTube channel for entertainment.
