Is this an image of a hotel and tourist place in Rajasthan? Know the Truth.

Whenever it is time for a vacation, whether it is a family vacation or a solo trip, people search for beautiful places to visit. Imagine you came to know about a tourist place with a beautiful scenic view and made all arrangements for the trip. How much disappointing it will be when you reach the destination and find that the place was never at the said location. 

Recently, we came across an image of a beautiful hotel beside a lake in a desert. A social media user claimed that this is a tourist place from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an image of Crescent Lake in China and not from India. 

What’s The Claim? 

Sharing the image, social media users are claiming that “This picture is not of America or London. This beautiful hotel is located near Bagthal intersection, a village in Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan state.”

Fact Check- 

As the place of this hotel was mentioned in the post as from Baghtal village in Jaisalmer, we searched for it with the help of Google Maps. We found that the village is located in a desert but the map did not show any water bodies in the region. 

This proved that this place is not from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. 

What’s the actual location then? 

A Google Reverse Image Search led us to a Facebook post in which the same viral image was shared by a user named The China Trips on 15 August 2021. The user mentioned that the place is called The Crescent Lake in Gobi Desert. He also mentioned that the lake appears like a crescent moon and with its crystal clear water, resembles a turquoise or pearl inlaid in the vast desert.

We also found the same image on the iStock Getty Images website. It is mentioned that the name of the lake is Dunhuang Crescent Lake located on the Silk Road in Gansu province of China. 

Taking a clue from this we located the place in Google Maps. 

We found similarities in the main building structure and the nearby lake. Below you can see the comparison between the viral image and the image taken from Google Maps. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The location of this place is not from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan but from China.
