False

Old video from Hyderabad viral as Vadodara police arrested Muslims for violence.

Violence was seen in many parts of the country on the occasion of Ram Navami. There were also reports of vandalizing of shops and stone-pelting on processions. Violence raged in West Bengal, Bihar and other places as well. According to the police, the violence was planned through social media.

Currently, a video of police barging into people’s houses, arresting some youths, and attacking them with sticks is going viral on social media. It is claimed that the Gujarat Police are arresting these people in connection with the recent violence that took place during Ram Navami.

However, fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an old video from Hyderabad which has no connection with Ram Navami or any incident in Gujarat.

What’s the Claim?

Sharing the video, social media users are claiming that the police are only targeting and arresting people of the Muslim community for the violence that erupted in Vadodara

Fact Check-

After watching the video closely, we found out that the registration number of one of the police cars starts with ‘TS’. TS is Telangana State Registration Number.

We found the name of a shop written as ‘Shaffaf’ at the beginning of the video. We searched for the shop on Google Maps. As a result, we found that the same shop is located at Banajja Galli2 in Hyderabad city. Below you can see this shop on google map.

We found some inscriptions in Urdu on another building. We found the same building on Google Maps of Hyderabad. Below you can see the similarities between the building in the viral video and the building found on the map.

The above facts prove that the incident of the viral video is not from Gujarat but from Hyderabad city.

So, what is the incident?

A keyword search on Google led us to a report published on the News Minute website on 25 August 2022. According to the report, MLA Raja Singh made a controversial comment about Prophet Mohammad after which he was arrested. The court later released him from jail. The police arrested the suspects because of the possibility of riots due to Raja Singh’s release. The police arrested those who had earlier protested over the incident.

Police were accused of creating violence by barging into people’s houses, using force against the suspects.

On 25 August 2022, Siasat Daily tweeted about the same incident on its Twitter handle. We can see the same viral video in this tweet.

The tweet reads, “On Wednesday night, the Hyderabad police first detained a few dozen protestors first around 7:30 – 8 pm. Following that, a few hundred then turned up to protest demanding the release of those who were picked up.”

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found that this is an old video from Hyderabad which has nothing to do with Ram Navami. This is a video of Hyderabad police arresting suspects to stop the possibility of protests after the release of MLA Raja Singh from jail.
