A video of PM Narendra Modi is going viral on social media. In this video PM Modi can be heard saying a few lines about the poor people of the country. He is saying, “Show only dreams to the poor, tell them lies, make them fight among themselves and rule (Gareeb ko sapne dikhao, jhut bolo, aapas mainladhao aur raaj karo)”

However, Fact Crescendo found that a clipped video of PM Modi’s old speech has been used to spread misleading claim. 

What’s the Claim? 

This video is shared on social media in such a manner that it seems as if PM Narendra Modi is telling people about the agenda of the BJP. He can be heard saying, show only dreams to the poor, tell them lies, make them fight among themselves and rule

Fact Check- 

A national leader like PM Narendra Modi, speaking openly about his party which will have a direct negative impact on the party’s image is highly suspicious. 

Therefore, we searched in Google using various keywords. The same video was uploaded on Bharatiya Janata Party’s YouTube Channel on 21 March 2021. The title of the video reads, ‘People of Assam know Congress guarantees- False Manifesto, Confusion, Corruption, Scams and more.’ This video of PM Modi was during his tour to Assam in 2021. 

In the above video PM Modi said, “People ruling over Assam for more than 50 years are now giving 5 guarantees to Assam people. The people of Assam know them very well. These people are habituated to lying. Show only dreams to the poor, tell them lies, making them fight among themselves and rule them is the formula of Congress to remain in power. But you all have to remember that Congress means false propaganda. Congress means a guarantee of confusion; Congress means a guarantee of instability, congress means bomb, artillery, and blockade, congress means violence and separatism, Congress means scams and corruption. Brothers and sisters, in BJP’s leadership, the NDA government is progressing with SabkaSath, SabkaVikash, SabkaVishwas agenda.”

According to a Hindustan Times report, PM Narendra Modi targeted Congress Party’s 5 guarantee manifestations and claimed the same to be a guarantee reign of corruption, nepotism, instability, appeasement and fake promises. This campaign took place in the Golaghat district of Assam. Modi reminded the locals that BJP’s Sarbananda Sonowal government in the state provided land allotment certificates to nearly 300,000 landless people. He also spoke about the daily wages of tea-garden workers, the construction of roads and bridges, etc.

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. A clipped video of PM Modi’s old speech has been used to mislead people that he is speaking on the agendas of the BJP about showing false dreams to people and making them fight among themselves.
