Was ₹500 Currency Notes Served At The Recent NMACC Event Instead Of Tissue Papers?

The Rs.500 currency notes in the image are fake. Notes Were added to a dessert Daulat ki Chaat’ as a part of the culinary presentation.

Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) was recently inaugurated in Mumbai on 31March. NMACC, located in Mumbai’s commercial Bandra Kurla Complex, will hold art shows, exhibitions, and theatre in the future.Several Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities attended the inauguration event, including Tom Holland, Gigi Hadid, Zendaya, Nick Jonas, Shah Rukh Khan, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

In this context, netizens shared a screenshot from photographer German Larkin‘s Instagram story, claiming that currency notes were used instead of tissue paper at the Ambani family’s celebration. “In Ambani ji’s party, Rs 500 notes are kept in place of tissue paper,” one caption says. Fact Check-

We began our investigation by carefully examining the image. A close look of the image reveals that the currency notes are fake. To confirm the claim, we compared the notes in the image to the specimen Rs 500 note available on the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) website. The currency notes served in the desserts differ significantly from the initial specimen Rs 500 note on the RBI’s website. The main difference is missing the rupee symbol ” before the number 500 written on the top and bottom right corners.

In further search we found an article on Money Control about the food served at the inauguration event of NMACC. The article mentions the viral photo as bowls of “Dault Ki Chaat”, the legendary Delhi dessert, decorated with paper that looks like Rs 500 notes. A report by India Today, dated 3 March, 2023 states “the guests at Ambani’s party at the NMACC launch were served a dish with Rs 500 notes in it, but it wasn’t real money.”

Further, we also noticed from the tweet replies that Delhi-based restaurant Indian Accent too prepares a similar dish named ‘Daulat Ki Chaat’, which is served with similar fake currency notes.

Multiple news sources also covered the viral image, clarifying that the money was “fake” and part of the Daulat Ki Chaat culinary presentation. According to an NDTV story dated 3April, 2023.As per the report “Indian Accent restaurant remodelled the dessert (Daulat Ki Chaat) by adding fake notes (yes, it’s all fake money), calling it the “dessert of the riches.”

You can view the Instagram page of Indian Accent restaurant with the image of this dessert below.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be False. Fake ₹500 currency notes were added to a dessert Daulat ki Chaat’ as a part of the culinary presentation, and not actual money served at recent NMACC event.
